Most people with home ownership dreams imagine a single-family dwelling in the suburbs. Another important factor to consider when planning on buying a new house plan is how many cars you currently own. Will there be adequate driveway space as your family grows or parking if you entertain large groups of people? If you have already purchased your house plan you might need to look for building lot that will complement that design.

The most common feature that people ask for when building a custom home is a basement. Having a whole extra floor in your house creates a lot more living space, without extending the footprint of the house itself. From adding extra bedrooms to creating a utility area or “man cave”, basements open up a wealth of options for what you can do with your new home. In most cases, adding a basement on to house plans is simple, so long as the soil in the area is up to standard.
At the end of the day, there are just some designs that click and others that seem great in the abstract but fail to measure up to our expectations. When you are comfortable after experiencing a certain layout, that should mean a lot more to you than specifications on paper. The best way for space to be utilized varies greatly based on the circumstances of individuals and families, and even if we can’t put those aspects of the perfect house plan into words, we know it when we see it.
