12 New Songs Coming: Preview Them Now!

Posted in Articles, Music, Site News by Nick on November 8th, 2008

Hey everyone! Today I am letting you preview 12 new songs I have in the works. All of my songs fall under the Electronica category, from Trance, Hardstyle and Electro House.

Feel free to comment on which ones you like the most, and let me know what I can do to improve.

Song 1

This song was made fairly recently, and I went for a nice hard feel but at the same time having a soothing, memorable melody. You could say Armin Van Buuren was one of my influences for this, but I am nowhere near his skill level yet.

Song 2

Going for an atmospheric, big feel, this song was somewhat influenced by Above & Beyond’s well known style. So far, I love what the song has become, but I need to add more elements to complete the atmosphere.

Song 3

This song’s main influence was Ultraform. After listening to his album, it really made me appreciate a good, hard song, that has fast synths and a kick that likes to jump around. I did however implement Cosmic Gate-style hi-hats. Near the end at the huge build up, I decided to go my own way, but I think it turns out to be pretty epic. See what you think!

Song 4

My girlfriend says this reminds her of a gospel church choir, and I have to say, it does have that inspirational, uplifting feel to it. But hey, that’s what I was going for!

Song 5

Having uploaded this song on YouTube a while ago, it’s gotten a lot of good feedback and reviews. I made the melody very typical, because I wanted to see if I could even pull off an epic Hardstyle/Hard Trance-esque song. I’m pretty sure after making this that I can.

Song 6

This is the first song I’ve ever made where I attempted Hardstyle/Jumpstyle. It hits nicely, but I definitely need to improve on background noises. See what you think:

Song 7

This one reminds me of a classic video game, but has a nice, happy mood to it. I can see it going somewhere if I continue working on it.

Song 8

This song is another one I just recently made. I love the tune I made, but I want to improve the bass. Bass aside, I’d say this is one of my better tunes.

Song 9: “FTP Get Your ID”

I started this song one day trying to go for that minimalistic Benny Benassi style. Soon after, my friend came over and I showed him the song. He liked it, but we both agreed it needed some kind of repeating lyrics. We both decided that “FTP get your ID” was both funny and catchy, and implemented it. I actually really like this song, and can’t wait to get it done.

Dubiety

This is a song that I am very proud of. Not so much of the melody, but more for the synth and bassline. It just sounds like a good Trance song from the get-go.

New Calm

If you can believe it or not, my girlfriend sings in this! This was my first stab at a calm, melodic Trance tune. I’m not good at lyrics, so I had her just sing. I’m sure if I could come up with some good lyrics, it’d turn out to sound like a real Trance song.

Face

I made this out of boredom and feeling silly. It’s a fast, Hard Dance style song. I’m not sure if I’ll bother finishing this one unless there’s huge demand. What do you think?

Hey nick.. i saw your post a few months ago with tutorials that helped you become a better webdesigner. I checked most of them out and they helped alot. I was wondering though, how did you learn like the hitech photoshop design? Like how you made all of those cool html templates. I cant find the right word to search for on google. Thanks Nick.

Well, let me first say that the “high tech” look is pretty much out. If you want to make a high tech design that actually looks good AND is an effective web site at the same time, it takes a lot of practice and understanding that less is more.

Anytime you think high tech, you think of many wires, metal plates, glowing neon, etc. It all sounds cool in theory but when it’s all throw together without any form or logic, it looks terrible. I actually hate most of my old designs.

Anyway, if you can understand that if you DO make a high tech design that you should only place a few graphical elements on the page, then I’d say go for it.

Could you possibly be more specific though? What effect are you trying to achieve, exactly?

Maybe i don’t really mean Hi-tech. My templates that i’ve made are just junky with basic html and PSD gradients and glows and stuff. They don’t really ever look good. I don’t get how to organize and design a nice template. Maybe im more into the glossy look. But right now my banner is 554 x 126. I cant seem to find the right design and borders for it to fit into my template. Any ideas? I like the design of your PSD template that you have available for slicing. I also like your current and last myspace layouts, like the one with the space theme. I tried to create something like the space one, but it turned out not flowing together at all. But if you could just write a tutorial or link me one that helps me make better borders, tables, and banners, i would greatly appreciate it! Thanks Nick

@Justin: Thanks for replying. That actually sounds like a great article I could write. Yes, it is very difficult to really master how to get a design to flow nicely. Hell I haven’t even mastered it yet.

I’m sure there’s other tutorials for that out there but I’ve yet to find one that specifically adderesses that issue.

Here are some articles I found that do address the bigger issue…just having a good looking, uncluttered design:

Hey i have another question. Im working on redoing my site so that people can comment on my content, just like we are doing through this post. Since my site is not a blog, its not automatically generated. Im not experience with PHP like at all so idk how to do it through that. Could you help me set it up or refer me to a site that can walk me through it? Or even a site that generates one for you. I might use ShoutMix.Com, but i have to make a new account with them for every page =/

@Justin: I’d definitely look into using some sort of content manager because it would just be easier to manage everything down the road.

I used to use something called Cutenews. You can integrate it with your design pretty easily, and you can use it for news and comments automatically.

Another way to do it is to use a PHP comments script (just google for one). I found one a while back where you just insert a Javascript code at the end of each page, and put a number, like “1″, “2″, etc. and the script would automatically make a PHP comments page for each individual page. I made my own comments system for theyCREATED but it would take a while to explain here, since that is based off profiles and member ID’s.

I wouldn’t even bother trying to get PHP to work on your local machine yet…just make an experiment page on your site called like test.php and play around with PHP to see what you can do, that’s how I learned.

Nvm i figured it out. Ok i have one more question for you and ill be done for a while lol i promise. The forums you used to use for your old site was forumotion if im not mistaking. How did you make it “http://elitenick.com/forums”? I’ve been using forumotion since i saw your old forums, but i don’t know how to set it up to forward to Gamersville.net/forums. I use Godaddy for hosting if that helps at all lol. Thanks again

Actually I manually installed PHPBB on my server to the /forum directory. You have to go to PHPBB.com and download the script, extract it, then upload it to your server and install it per the install readme file.
