Local Network File Sharing with Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
Posted in Articles, Solving Problems by Nick on August 14th, 2008
I recently upgraded to Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, and while being a fantastic program, I did have one problem: I could no longer access my girlfriend’s computer in our local network and vice versa.
The fix is simple, though. This is for Vista, however it should work the same for XP and other operating systems KIS 2009 runs on:
Step 1
Click the “Settings” button on the top right

Step 2
Click “System Security” on the left

Step 3
Click “Settings” under “Firewall”

Step 4
Go to the “Networks” tab

Step 5
On your networking controller (wireless or wired, whichever you’re using), double-click it and change the status to “Local”

Do this on both machines, and you should be back to sharing!

Thanks a lot, finally figured it out… the complete renaming of settings from different languages in Kaspersky and the completey different layout from the last version threw me totally off track for finding firewall settings.

Oh My God. Thank you so much!!!!!!
I have been banging my head on the wall trying to get this thing figured out. I Changed around so many settings in both the desktop that had kaspersky on it and the laptop trying to connect to it. Thank you.

@defnordic: @Yev: You’re both welcome! I was glad when I figured it out too, that’s why I posted this article…so people didn’t have to go through the same thing as me.

Thanks for the solution. As a user of KIS2007 I don’t find 2009 particularly intuitive to use, and I think that setting up, or recognising a LAN, should be easier than this!

So nice to find the quick fix here! Thanks for taking the time to post it. For those asking, this is on the 2009 version and the last image will appear when you double click the network that is listed as CONNECTED under your wireless or wired network controller. As the image here shows, it might not be at the top of your list of networks.
